Question 1

What is travel insurance?

Accepted Answer

A policy that can help cover eligible costs from unexpected events on a trip, such as medical emergencies, evacuation, delays or lost baggage. The policy helps pay eligible expenses, subject to its benefit limits, deductibles, and exclusions.

Question 2

What does travel insurance cover?

Accepted Answer

Depending on the plan, benefits may include emergency medical treatment, hospitalisation, emergency evacuation, trip interruption, and baggage protection. The benefit limits and any applicable deductible are set out in your chosen plan. Always read the policy wording before you buy — that document, not this page, is the contract.

Question 3

What is not covered?

Accepted Answer

Exclusions vary by plan and may include routine or planned treatment, non-emergency dental or vision care, certain pregnancy-related expenses, some high-risk activities, and incidents involving alcohol or drugs. Read the policy’s exclusions and benefit conditions carefully.

Question 4

Are pre-existing conditions covered?

Accepted Answer

Cover for pre-existing conditions varies by plan. Some plans exclude them, while others may provide limited cover, such as for an acute onset, subject to specific conditions and age limits. Any look-back or medical-stability period is defined by the policy. Check these terms with the insurer before buying.

Question 5

Is there a waiting period?

Accepted Answer

Some plans or benefits have waiting periods. Check the policy’s start date, waiting periods, and conditions before buying. Buying a policy does not guarantee cover for an event that has already occurred.

Question 6

When should I buy?

Accepted Answer

Buy travel insurance before you travel, ideally soon after making your first trip booking. Eligibility for trip cancellation cover and other time-sensitive benefits depends on the policy, your booking and payment dates, and when you purchase cover. Check how the policy treats later bookings and known events.

Question 7

Is travel insurance mandatory?

Accepted Answer

For some destinations and visa types, yes — many Schengen visa applications require proof of minimum medical cover, and some countries ask for it on entry. Requirements change, so check the embassy or immigration source for your destination; they have the final word.

Question 8

What is visitor insurance?

Accepted Answer

Visitor insurance is travel medical insurance for people visiting another country, including parents visiting family and tourists. Depending on the plan, it may cover eligible medical emergencies during the insured visit. Routine or ongoing care may be excluded.

Question 9

How do I make a claim?

Accepted Answer

Submit your claim to the insurer or designated claims administrator named in your policy, not to us. Keep every medical report, bill and receipt, and tell the insurer as soon as you reasonably can — most set a deadline for notifying them. Their emergency line is on your policy document. If you are not sure where to start, contact us and we will walk you through it.

Question 10

Can I buy travel insurance online?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Get a quote, compare the available plans side by side and buy online. Policy documents are sent to you by email.
